People did not benefit as Tamilnadu did not join Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojna scheme: Javadekar

The people of Tamil Nadu have not benefitted on the power supply and power tariff fronts because the State government chose not to join the Central Government’s Ujwal Discom Assurance Yojna (UDAY) scheme, said Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, in Coimbatore on Friday.

Power consumers in 20 States had benefitted from the scheme, because the governments had joined the scheme. In the coming days, the Union Government would prevail upon the State Government to join the scheme by highlighting its merits.

Voters in Tamil Nadu yearned for a corruption-free government, which both the Dravidian parties, the AIADMK and DMK, had failed to provide in the last 20 years. The parties had also misgoverned the State. This was the reason that the voters looked up to the BJP.

Another reason that the party gained in support was the corruption-free governance provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said Mr. Javadekar.

Another achievement of the Central Government that had caught on the imagination of the people of the State was that no fisherman had died in the hands of the Sri Lankan Navy in the past two years.

Thanks to the proactive approach of the Prime Minister , fishermen were only captured and produced in courts in the island country and subsequently released.

The release of fishermen too happened regularly because of the Central Government’s efforts, he added.

As for the campaign of Mr. Modi in the State, Mr. Javadekar said the dates were being worked out. Once finalised, the party would share the dates.

The Union Government would prevail upon the State to join the scheme.
