Revenue Inspector, supervisor held on graft charges

Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Friday arrested the Revenue Inspector and market supervisor of the Coonoor Municipality on charges of demanding and accepting bribe to bring down the lease rent of the municipal lodge.

According to DVAC sources, a contractor V. Shafiullah was to bid for the lease of the lodge owned by the municipality at the Coonoor bus stand. It was alleged that Revenue Inspector Nanjundan (53) and supervisor Ravikumar (43) of the municipality had demanded Rs. 50,000 as bribe from Shafiullah for bringing down the lease amount.

Based on a complaint from Shafiullah, a trap was laid by DVAC and Inspector Geethalakshmi and her team trapped the two officials when the complainant handed over the bribe amount to the two at the municipal office. The money was seized and both were arrested. Both were remanded in judicial custody.
