Car-Free Sundays enters eighth week

The “Car-Free Sundays” initiative by The Hindu Tamil in partnership withCoimbatore Corporation andCoimbatore City Traffic Police is entering the eighth week and new events along with those well-patronised events of the last seven weeks are lined up.

A variety of events are lined up for the participants on NSR Road in Coimbatore (from 6.30 a.m. to 9 a.m.). The Hindu – English is the media partner.

Events lined up include; Beethoven Fitness from 6.30 am, followed by Solutions to Pollution by Roots from 7.15 am and then comes, voters awareness dance by Ranjith School of dance organised by The Hindu Tamil , followed by Karoke by Mohan and team and a Skit on Green Environment awareness by students of VLB Janakiammal College.

There will also be a fusion dance by students of CMS College.

These are just a few events to name and there are many more off-stage events by local talents. In addition to all this, along the entire 800 meter stretch there would be portrait sketching, tattooing, children displaying their drawing skills on the road, cycling besides a host of sports by local residents and children. Radio City is the Radio Partner and Mark 1 Events is the event manager.

Traffic diversion

To enable activities on the 800-metre Car Free Sunday stretch, there will a traffic diversion.

Vehicles from Mettupalayam Road entering the NSR Road will be allowed to proceed after S Bend Stretch and will have take a left and get diverted through Bharathi Park IInd Cross and enter Azhagesan Road to proceed towards Thadagam Road.

These vehicles will enter the Thadagam Road stretch near Bharathi School.

In the return direction, vehicles will not be allowed from Thadagam Road to enter NSR Road and will have to proceed further on Thadagam Road and take a left at Bharathi School to join Azhagesan Road and proceed further. They can proceed straight and join Mettupalayam Road or could take the left at Bharathi Park IInd Cross and rejoin NSR Road to proceed further.
