Coimbatore: The Southern Railways has released its list of top 10 railway stations based on passenger traffic and revenue generation for the year 2023-24. Coimbatore Junction has secured the third position, handling an impressive 1.02 crore passengers and generating a revenue of Rs 345 crore.

Chennai Central tops the list with 3.05 crore passengers and a revenue of Rs 1300 crore, followed by Chennai Egmore with 1.95 crore passengers and Rs 600 crore revenue. Coimbatore's performance highlights its significance as a major railway hub in the region.

The top 10 list also includes Thiruvananthapuram Central (1.27 crore passengers, Rs 281 crore revenue), Tambaram (3.27 crore passengers, Rs 246 crore revenue), Ernakulam Junction (88 lakh passengers, Rs 241 crore revenue), Madurai (75 lakh passengers, Rs 224 crore revenue), Kozhikode (1.14 crore passengers, Rs 190 crore revenue), Tiruchirappalli (79 lakh passengers, Rs 165 crore revenue), and Trichur (69 lakh passengers, Rs 164 crore revenue).

This ranking demonstrates the vital role Coimbatore Junction plays in the Southern Railways network, serving as a crucial transportation link for over a million passengers annually. The substantial revenue generated also underscores its economic importance to the region.
