New Broadcasting Bill to Regulate YouTube Channels and Online Media: Union Minister L. Murugan

Union Minister L. Murugan inaugurated a Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Coimbatore and addressed various issues including media regulation, NIA office, and Vijay's political entry during a press meet.



Coimbatore: Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, L. Murugan, inaugurated a Jan Aushadhi Kendra in Avarampalayam, Coimbatore, on Monday.





Following the inauguration, he addressed the media on various topics ranging from affordable medicines to media regulation.



Murugan emphasized the importance of Jan Aushadhi Kendras in providing affordable medicines to all. He stated, "These pharmacies offer medicines at lower prices compared to market rates. This beneficial scheme is being implemented across India."

Commenting on the current media landscape, Murugan said, "Anyone can start a YouTube channel and speak about anything. To regulate this, a new Broadcasting Bill is coming." He urged YouTube channels and online media to act responsibly, revealing that 69 YouTube channels operating against national interests have been blocked.

The minister also touched upon other significant issues:

1. PM-SHRI Schools: Murugan mentioned that the Central Education Minister has written to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister regarding the implementation of PM-SHRI schools in the state, but no response has been received yet.

2. New Education Policy: He clarified that the New Education Policy emphasizes mother tongue education in primary schooling and was formulated after consulting all sections of people.

3. NIA Office: Murugan hinted at the possibility of bringing a National Investigation Agency (NIA) office to Coimbatore.

4. Law and Order: He criticized the current state government, stating that Tamil Nadu's law and order situation is "laughable" due to inefficient administration.

5. Vijay's Political Entry: Welcoming actor Vijay's entry into politics, Murugan dismissed claims about denial of permission for Vijay's conference, accusing the media of exaggerating the issue.

The minister also briefly commented on the ongoing Vinayagar Chaturthi processions across Tamil Nadu and mentioned his upcoming participation in a Coimbatore event.
