Foam leaks into house near Washermanpet metro rail site

In yet another incident of a leakage occurring as the result of tunnel boring work, black foam seeped out from the ground into a house situated close to a metro rail work station at Washermanpet on Thursday.

According to officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), the leakage occurred as the owner of the residence had not informed the officials that there was a borewell underneath. The foam used for tunnelling work leaked through the borewell, officials said.

Usually, if there is a borewell in the stretch where tunnelling is done, it is closed as the foam may leak through the hole. “We are in the process of cleaning and investigating the site. We will find out if there is any other unidentified bore well,” an official said.

Tunnelling work is being carried out from Washermanpet to Korukkupet for the construction of underground metro network as part of phase I extension project. A similar incident occurred last week.
