TANGEDCO to Split into Two Corporations: Central Energy Ministry Approves

The Central Energy Ministry has approved the division of TANGEDCO into two separate corporations. This restructuring aims to enhance efficiency in power generation and promote green energy initiatives in Tamil Nadu.

Coimbatore: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) is set to be divided into two separate entities following approval from the Central Energy Ministry. This significant restructuring of the state's power utility marks a new chapter in Tamil Nadu's energy sector.

The bifurcation will result in the formation of two distinct corporations: Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited (TNPGCL) and Tamil Nadu Green Energy Corporation Limited (TNGECL). This move is expected to streamline operations and enhance focus on specific areas of the power sector.

TNPGCL will be responsible for conventional power generation activities, including thermal and hydro power plants. This entity will continue to manage existing power generation infrastructure and work towards meeting the state's growing energy demands.

On the other hand, TNGECL will focus on renewable and green energy initiatives. This corporation will spearhead Tamil Nadu's efforts in expanding its renewable energy portfolio, including solar, wind, and other sustainable power sources. The creation of a dedicated green energy corporation underscores the state's commitment to transitioning towards cleaner and more sustainable energy solutions.

The bifurcation of TANGEDCO is expected to bring about improved efficiency, better resource allocation, and more focused development in both conventional and renewable energy sectors. It also aligns with the national goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in the country's power mix.

As Tamil Nadu moves forward with this restructuring, it is anticipated that both TNPGCL and TNGECL will play crucial roles in shaping the state's energy landscape, ensuring a balance between meeting current power needs and building a sustainable energy future.
