Coimbatore: In a tragic incident near Karamadai, a 28-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a well with her 2.5-year-old daughter. The incident took place on July 4 in Pellathi village, leaving the local community in shock.

The deceased have been identified as Kalamani (28) and her daughter Asvika (2.5). Kalamani was married to Santhosh (31), who works at a bicycle shop in Mathampalayam. The couple had been married for four years and resided in Pellathi village near Karamadai.

On the morning of July 4, Santhosh left for work at their garden. Kalamani and Asvika were at home but later went out. When they didn't return for an extended period, a worried Santhosh, along with his relatives, searched for them in various places. Unable to locate them, Santhosh filed a missing person complaint at the Karamadai police station.

Around 2 PM, relatives noticed Kalamani's slipper near a well close to their house. Suspecting something amiss, they looked into the well and were horrified to find the bodies of Kalamani and Asvika floating in the water. The distraught family members immediately alerted the Karamadai police and the Mettupalayam fire department.

Fire and rescue personnel retrieved the bodies from the well. Initial police investigation revealed that Kalamani had tightly bound her daughter to her chest with a cloth before jumping into the well, resulting in both their deaths.

The bodies were sent to Mettupalayam Government Hospital for post-mortem examination. The Karamadai police have registered a case and are investigating the reasons behind the mother's decision to end her life along with her child's.

This incident has cast a pall of gloom over the village, with locals expressing shock and sadness over the untimely deaths. The police are questioning family members and neighbors to ascertain if there were any underlying issues that might have driven Kalamani to take such an extreme step.
