Over 100 Workers Protest Demanding Rights and Contract Termination at Coimbatore Municipal Corporation

Over 100 workers including daily wage sanitation staff, drivers, and pest control personnel staged a protest near Tata Bad in Coimbatore, demanding resolution of various grievances and termination of Southern Solid Waste Management Service's contract.

In a significant demonstration of unrest, over 100 workers affiliated with the Voice of Authority group protested at the Coimbatore Municipal Corporation. The protesters included daily wage workers such as sanitation staff, drivers, cleaners, and pest control personnel.

They gathered near Tata Bad, halting work for about two hours to voice their complaints against the municipal corporation. The workers' main grievances include the non-payment of EI and PF funds for the past eight months by the contractor Southern Solid Waste Management Services. They demanded the cancellation of this firm's contract, insisting on direct payment of salaries by the municipal corporation.

Additionally, the protestors called for compensation of Rs. 20 Lakhs to the families of workers who lost their lives due to the poor working conditions and insisted on ensuring job security and safety measures. The demonstrators raised slogans against the municipal administration during the protest to highlight their plea for more humane working conditions and proper employment benefits.
