Early morning altercation among windmill workers intoxicated from alcohol in Moolanur, near Dharapuram, leads to the death of one worker.
Coimbatore: In a tragic turn of events near Dharapuram, a dispute among workers residing at an old polytechnic college in Moolanur resulted in the death of a 21-year-old worker identified as Santosh Kumar. The incident unfolded in the early hours of yesterday when a group of workers from a private windmill company, who had been staying on the defunct campus for the past two weeks, indulged in heavy drinking.


According to witnesses, Santosh Kumar and Mariselvam, aged 28, from Virudhunagar, were seen drinking together before a heated argument escalated. Reportedly, Mariselvam, under the influence of alcohol, shoved and attacked Santosh Kumar. The assault left Kumar critically injured, prompting fellow workers to rush him to a private hospital in nearby Chinnadharapuram. Despite the immediate medical aid, Kumar succumbed to his injuries. The police were alerted about the incident around 2 AM, after which they arrived at the site and transferred Kumar's body to the Tiruppur Medical College Hospital for an autopsy.
Following the tragic event, the Moolanur Police arrested Mariselvam and charged him with murder. He has been detained and will be presented in court. This incident has raised concerns about on-site security and alcohol consumption among workers in remote work locations.
