Cops find 589 abandoned motorcycles in parking lots

The city police conducted raids at 49 two-wheeler parking stands across the city and found 589 abandoned motorcycles. As many as seven cars and four autorickshaws were also found abandoned in the parking stands. Police said they would trace the owners and try to hand the vehicles over. If no one claims ownership of the vehicles, then police would get permission from the revenue officials and conduct an auction.

Coimbatore city police commissioner A Amalraj said a team of police conducted surprise raids in the parking stands and found the abandoned vehicles. "We would get the details of vehicle owners with the help of officials from the regional transport office. The details gathered from there will be checked in detail with the crime and criminal tracking network systems," said Amalraj.

Police said 29 motorcycles were abandoned at the Fun Mall parking stand and another 36 at the corporation two-wheeler stand coming under the Variety Hall Road police limits. An ambassador car had been lying abandoned for over eight years at GD Naidu Charities two-wheeler parking stand coming under the Race Course police limits. "We are trying to find owners of the vehicles. We will auction the unclaimed vehicles soon," said Amalraj.
