Current Status of Dams in Coimbatore and Tirupur Districts

Updates on the water levels, inflow, outflow, and rainfall rates at various dams in Coimbatore and Tirupur districts as of 25.05.2024, including Solaiyar, Parambikulam, Aliyar, Thirumoorthy, and Amaravathi.


Coimbatore: The water storage and rainfall data for the dams in Coimbatore and Tiruppur districts have been updated as of 25th May 2024. In Coimbatore, the Solaiyar Dam reports a water level of 26.08 feet with a maximum capacity of 160 feet, an inflow of 380.53 cubic feet per second, and an outflow of 20 cubic feet per second. It recorded 22mm of rainfall.

Parambikulam Dam shows a water level of 11.40 feet against its full capacity of 72 feet, receiving an inflow of 418 cubic feet per second and releasing 57 cubic feet per second, with rainfall measuring at 23mm. The Aliyar Dam has a current level of 75.35 feet out of a total 120 feet, with an inflow of 216 cubic feet per second and an outflow of 22 cubic feet per second, complemented by a rainfall of 10.6mm.

In Tirupur district, the Thirumoorthy Dam holds a water level of 30.45 feet of a 60 feet capacity, with 191 cubic feet per second inflow, 26 cubic feet per second outflow, and 5mm rainfall. Nearby, the Amaravathi Dam records a water level of 40.03 feet with a full capacity of 90 feet, receiving an inflow of 479 cubic feet per second and an outflow of 18 cubic feet per second, while the rainfall data were not available.

Additionally, measurements of rainfall in various locations include Valparai at 36mm, Upper Nirar at 31mm, Lower Nirar at 22mm, Kadamparai at 14mm, Sarkarpathy at 6mm, Vettaikaranpudur at 8.8mm, Manakadavu at 9mm, and several others recording between 3mm to 14mm, presenting an extensive coverage across the region.
