Flying squad officials seized Rs 81,000 from BJP members allegedly distributing money to voters at Mariappan Tea Stall, Pooluvapatti, Coimbatore, based on tips from the District Election Control Room.
Coimbatore: In a late-night operation, flying squad officials apprehended BJP members while they were allegedly distributing money to voters in Coimbatore’s Pooluvapatti area. The officials acted on information received from the District Election Control Room which indicated that individuals affiliated with the BJP were distributing cash to influence voters. The raid was conducted near Mariappan Tea Stall in Pooluvapatti.
According to reports, the flying squad captured Rs 81,000 in cash from BJP Mandal leader Jothimani, intended for voter distribution across wards 12, 13, 14, and 15. Plans for further distributions in adjacent wards were also thwarted. During the operation, booth slips with voters' names and addresses were also recovered from the possession of the accused.
The seized money and evidence were handed over to the Perur revenue office for further action. This incident has raised serious concerns about vote-buying and election integrity in the region.
