Second autopsy conducted on body of Chinnasamy

Amid heavy police presence at the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital, doctors conducted a second autopsy on the body of daily wager Chinnasamy (51) on Friday. He was found dead in a farm well in Thingalur police limits in Erode district last month.

While the Thingalur police said that it was an accident, his relatives suspected foul play. They staged a protest, refused to receive his body at the hospital and also moved the Madras High Court, which ordered the second autopsy. Based on the court order, doctors led by Dean Edwin Joe and a doctor of a private hospital conducted the post-mortem examination that was video recorded.

At the time of the autopsy, senior Erode police officers led by Superintendent of Police Sibi Chakravarthy were present. Chinnasamy was a member of the Dalit Viduthalai Katchi. His relatives alleged that Chinnasamy was murdered as there was a dispute between Chinnasamy’s community and members of an intermediate caste.
