Farmers of Uppar region near Dharapuram in Tirupur District, have hoisted black flags in their houses and cow sheds to protest against the District Collector for ignoring their irrigational demands.
Tirupur: Farmers of Uppar Dam, located near Dharapuram, are protesting against the Tirupur District Collector, alleging neglect of their demands for water release from Thirumurthy dam to Uppar dam. The farmers expressed their discontent hoisting black flags atop houses.
In response to the administration's failure to address their concerns, the farmers have escalated their protest. Despite assurances from the district administration on March 15 to engage in discussions with the Uppar farmers, leading to a temporary halt in protests, the promised negotiations failed to materialize, prompting further outcry against the District Collector.

Today, the protest saw the participation of villages surrounding Upparu Dam, including Panmarathupalayam, Dasampatti, Panadupalayam, Kolinchikattuputhur, Ponnalipalayam, Koppanampalayam, Sakunipalayam, Madathuppalayam, Thoppampatti, and Rangampalayam.

Villagers registered their protest by hoisting black flags, signaling widespread discontent.

This marks the seventh instance of the Tirupur District Collector inviting the farmers for talks, only to allegedly neglect them after making them wait for extended periods at the District Collector's office, intensifying the grievances among the farming community, they alleged.
