Agricultural Workers Union Protests for Reinstatement of Welfare Board in Coimbatore

The Tamil Nadu Agricultural Workers Union stages a protest in Coimbatore, demanding the reinstatement of a welfare board and immediate financial assistance.

Coimbatore: Members of the Tamil Nadu Agricultural Workers Union gathered in a protest in front of the Coimbatore Collector's Office, led by district coordinator Duraisamy. The demonstrators, armed with traditional farming tools like ploughs and sickles, raised their voices to highlight their demands.

They protested the dismantling of the welfare board for agricultural workers, previously established by former Chief Minister Karunanidhi, and abolished during the previous AIADMK regime. The current Farmer's Protection Scheme, they argue, is ineffective and fails to aid the agricultural laborers adequately.

Their demands include the immediate reinstatement of the Agricultural Workers Welfare Board and the prompt allocation of funds for the 100-day employment scheme promised by the central government. They also called for the payment of pending wages.

Over 30 members participated in the protest, vociferously advocating for their rights and the well-being of the agricultural community.

The protest highlights the ongoing struggles of agricultural workers and their fight for proper recognition and support from the government.
