Railwaly police conduct check for freebies

The railway police on Wednesday stepped up enforcement of election model code of conduct by initiating a drive to check all the train passengers in Erode junction to see whether they were carrying freebies by politicians to bribe voters.

The district administration on Wednesday deployed a total of 24 teams, each consisting of officials from railway protection force (RPF) and railway police, to check train passengers in Erode junction alone.

The teams would also monitor passengers' movements in the railway station. "We will carry out this drive round-the-clock until Assembly election," said railway police, adding that they would also videograph the whole checking process.

The district administration and the Southern Railway have instructed the railway police and RPF to carry out the passenger check in an impartial manner.
