Unaccounted cash seized at Pollachi

Flying squad officials on Wednesday seized Rs. 65,000 from a person in Kil Nadugani in the Gudalur Assembly constituency. A release said that the Wednesday’s seizure of cash takes the total cash seized in the district to Rs. 1.12 crore.

Sticker Campaign

The officials led by Collector and District Election Officer P. Shankar pasted voter-awareness stickers on tourist vehicles and distributed handbills to people urging them to vote.

In Pollachi, around 500 students of engineering and arts and science colleges conducted an election awareness campaign on Wednesday. A release said that under the leadership of Pollachi Sub-Collector Gayathri Krishnan, the students got together to form the election symbol. The objective was to ensure 100 per cent voting.

The election officials in Pollachi had been conducting various voter awareness programmes by engaging folk artistes and students.

In Coimbatore, the district administration officials returned Rs. 3.25 lakh to two persons who returned with documents to stake claim for the seized cash.

Cases Registered

A release from the administration said that flying squad and static surveillance team officials had on March 27 seized Rs. 1.10 lakh in Kinathukadavu Assembly constituency and Rs. 2.15 lakh from a person in Pollachi constituency on March 24. Thus far the officials had seized Rs. 33.16 lakh and of it returned Rs. 18.80 lakh. They had also registered 240 poll code violation cases.
