Election candidates can now file affidavits online

The Election Commission of India, for the first time, has launched a facility to file affidavits online by the candidates contesting the elections.

Launching the facility on Tuesday, the ECI said that the online e-filing option will also offer assistance in properly filling up the affidavit. The e-filing option will not accept incomplete affidavits and nomination papers, and therefore there will not be any rejection of nomination papers due to their being incomplete.

Once the affidavit is completed, candidates can get it printed for their reference.

The e-filing option, provided by NIC Data Centre and National Security Depository Limited (NSDL), also makes it possible for the candidates to make corrections and modifications in their affidavits until they are submitted for notarization before the Returning Officer. Currently, the option is available only in Hindi and English.
