MNM first party to propose women’s monthly allowance; we welcome this whole-heartedly: Anusha Ravi on TN Budget 2023

Reacting to the latest announcements in the TN Budget, State Propaganda Secretary of MNM, Anusha Ravi said, “we appreciate the focus given to Coimbatore in the budget. It has a good mix of development and welfare projects. We welcome the metro, Semmozhi Park in Jail Ground and the implementation of the women’s allowance scheme, which our leader proposed for the first time in India.”

Coimbatore: MNM has welcome the announcement of Magalir Urimai Thogai scheme during the Tamilnadu Budget. Party leader Kamal Haasan took to twitter and claimed “MNM was the first political party in all of India to push this scheme”.

Commenting about the TN Budget 2023 to SimpliCity, Anusha Ravi, State Propaganda Secretary, MNM, said “As our beloved leader Kamal Haasan said, MNM was the pioneer in bringing this scheme to the political landscape. Women empowerment and development has been one of the key narratives of MNM and we are delighted TN Govt has fulfilled it’s poll promise. We promised to offer Rs. 3000 to women family heads, but this is a good start.”

The much-awaited Magalir Urimai Thogai, a scheme providing Rs 1,000 monthly assistance for eligible women heads of families — one of the key poll-time assurances made by the DMK in 2021, will be rolled out on September 15 this year.

The CM’s Breakfast Scheme, rolled out on a pilot basis in 1,543 elementary schools, will now be extended to all 30,122 government primary schools, with special focus on Chennai and Coimbatore with a slew of projects announced for city’s infrastructure and quality of life.

She further added, “Metro project, Tech City, Semmozhi Park replacing jail grounds in Gandhipuram, are all good development based projects for Coimbatore. We wish the metro project is started and completed soon as people have already been struggling with bad roads for over 5 years now and the road relaying has just started in few areas of Coimbatore.“

Presenting a deficit budget for 2023-2024, State’s Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said the operational guidelines outlining the eligibility to avail of the benefits under the Magalir Urimai scheme will be evolved and released soon. PTR further emphasized that TN Govt has reduced the deficit they inherited from AIADMK govt in the last ten years by half and has promised to clear the deficit within this term.

A total of Rs 7,000 crore has been allotted in the budget for this scheme which will be a ‘game-changer’ in the socio-economic life of women of the State.

Anusha Ravi added that, “this is a good mix of welfare and development projects while also reducing the deficit. We hope the TN govt clears the deficit before this term. I am waiting to know the details of the Tech City project as it is something that Coimbatore will benefit greatly with all the educational quality in the city.
