A total of 4,393 passengers have been screened at the Coimbatore airport since January 1. So far, three people have tested positive for coronavirus.

Following which surveillance has been intensified at international airports across the country.
Accordingly, the passengers arriving at the Coimbatore International Airport are screened for fever and sputum samples are collected from two per cent of the passengers on a random basis.
Passengers arriving at Coimbatore airport from Singapore and Sharjah are being tested for covid-19. A 38-year-old man from Kalappanaickenpatti in Namakkal district has tested positive for Covid-19 on January 16.
Namakkal district health department officials were duly informed about the details of the person concerned.
So far, three people have tested positive for covid-19 at the Coimbatore airport since January 1, health department officials said.
According to Aruna, Deputy director of Public health, "About 4,393 people have been tested for fever at Coimbatore airport since January 1.
Also, sputum samples have been collected on random basis from 148 people. Of these, three persons, one each from Coimbatore, Tirupur and Namakkal districts, have tested positive for covid-19".
“Since December, only six people have tested positive for covid-19 at the Coimbatore International Airport” she said.
“Except the passenger from Namakkal district, other two are not infected with the new type of covid-19. Sputum samples the Namakkal man has been sent to a laboratory in Chennai for diagnosis for any new strain of covid-19” Aruna said.
