Police arrest three in the case of labourer burnt to death near Singanallur

Three persons have been arrested in connection with the burning of a labourer who was living on the roadside in Singanallur in Coimbatore.


Coimbatore: Suresh (30) a labourer and a native of Madurai district was staying on the roadside in Ramanujam Nagar area of Singanallur.

On the night of the 14th, Suresh was reportedly sleeping on the roadside when an unidentified person suddenly poured diesel on Suresh and set him on fire and escaped.

As a result, the fire spread all over the body and Suresh's body suffered 90 per cent burns.

On seeing this, the neighbours rescued Suresh and sent him to Coimbatore government hospital for treatment. He was admitted to the intensive care unit where he succumbed to his injuries.

Following this, the Singanallur police registered a case of murder and launched a man hunt and scurtinised the CCTV cameras installed in the area. It had footage of a man setting fire on Suresh and running away.

Following which the Police arrested Subramani (57), a labourer who was also staying on the road with Suresh.

During interrogation, he revealed that the two had consumed liquor together and had an argument over Suresh sealing his money. He confided to buying a bottle of diesel and set fire to sleeping Suresh.

Following this, the Police arrested Subramanian and produced him in court and remanded him in custody.

Singanallur police also arrested Bhaskaran (62) and cashier Balakrishnan (57) for selling diesel in bottles in violation of rules.
