Why You Need To Sleep More To Eat Less?

Many functions in the body depend upon certain signals that your brain receives. When you are hungry, the hunger itself is a signal from your body which indicates that you need to eat food.

And when you are full, you know it because you get a signal that you have eaten enough. Who or what sends the signals? Well, ghrelin is the hormone that is behind such signals.

Now, let us discuss the link between hunger and sleep in this post.

Fact:

Ghrelin is produced in your stomach. When there is no food inside the stomach, ghrelin gets into your bloodstream and signals the brain about hunger.

Once there is enough food in the stomach, ghrelin stops getting secreted. That is when your brain realizes that you don't need to go for another serving. This way, ghrelin plays a major role in when you eat and how much you eat.

Now, where does sleep come into the picture? Well, your sleep habits do have a say in the secretion of ghrelin!

When you follow a crash diet program which involves eating very less, your ghrelin levels tend to be high and that's why your cravings and hunger tend to be high. When you eat enough, your ghrelin levels subside.

Also, if you maintain a stable weight, your ghrelin levels tend to be stable. That is why some people tend to maintain the right portion size.

Now, many studies have concluded that sleep deprivation could spike ghrelin levels. So, if you don't sleep properly, you tend to eat more. If your sleep quality is maintained your appetite will also be optimized.
