About nine people have tested positive for Covid-19 during the random RT- PCR test conducted at the Coimbatore Airport from the 1st to the 19th of this month.
Coimbatore: Following a surge in Covid-19 across the state, Coimbatore District is still on the top of the chart with the maximum number of reported cases next only to Chennai.
According to reports, nine people have tested positive for covid-19 through the tests conducted at the Coimbatore international airport in the first two weeks of the April month.
A month ago, the Coronavirus infection witnessed a sudden upsurge across the country. Following this, the Central Government advised intensifying surveillance at international airports across the country. Subsequently, the surveillance and testing at the airports have been intensified.
At the Coimbatore International Airport two per cent of random RT PCR for passengers is being carried out on a routine basis.
About nine people have tested positive for Covid-19 during the random RT- PCR test conducted at the Coimbatore Airport from the 1st to the 19th of this month.
Health officials said, "Until last month at Coimbatore International Airport, only one person in a month or one in two months tested positive. Currently, two people are being diagnosed with the infection per week. Thus, foreign travellers are checked out only after intensive observation.
As many as 2,127 passengers arrived at Coimbatore airport from 1st to 19th in 16 flights, of which 180 of them were tested. Out of the total, 9 of them were found to be infected. Only two of them are from Coimbatore. One person each from Ariyalur, Madurai, Namakkal and Nilgiris, one from Karnataka and two from Kerala was diagnosed with corona infection."
"People diagnosed with Covid from other districts will be monitored by the concerned district offiiclas. People from Coimbatore are quarantined and monitored at home. Hospitalization is also arranged for those based on the disease severity.
“As the coronavirus infection continues to increase in Coimbatore, the public can only control the spread of the virus by following the Covid regulations including wearing face masks and following social distancing," Health officials noted.
Meanwhile, it is noteworthy that 66 people have tested positive for corona in Coimbatore district as of April 20 and the current case load is 394 cases. A total of 3,626 cases are reported across the state to date which Chennai topping the chart with 919 cases followed by Coimbatore in the second.
