Many students studying at Abirami Nursing College on the Madukkarai L and T Highway in Coimbatore are falling ill, and the students studying from hostels are being sent back to their hometowns.
Coimbatore: About 900 students are studying at Abirami Nursing College on the Madukkarai LND Highway in Coimbatore. More than 400 students from Tamil Nadu and Kerala are studying nursing in hostels owned by the college.
10 students, who had been staying at the college hostel for the past 4 days, suddenly fell ill. Following this, the students were admitted to a hospital-owned by the college in the Sundarapuram area and received treatment.
In this condition, the students vomited and fainted in succession. About 109 people have vomited so far and 31 students are currently being treated at the hospital.

In this connection, the District Health Officer Aruna, headed by Madukkarai Regional Health Officer, went to the scene on the information received.

The health team, including Alagu Rajalakshmi, are camping at the hostel and examining the students.
Further, the Governor and the Tahsildar of Madukkarai are investigating the matter with the students and the college administration. Also, the entire dormitory building where the currently affected students were staying was disinfected. Similarly, the medical team on the college dormitory campus has been providing blood sample testing and immunizations to the students.
In addition, samples of drinking water, and food items consumed by students in hostels and restaurants were collected by health officials and sent for analysis. Similarly, 108 ambulances have been parked on the college premises as a precautionary measure.
In the meantime, the college administration has granted leave for the next three days from Friday. Students staying in hostels have started moving to their hometowns.
In this regard, one of the parents of a nursing student said, "The college administration is urging the hostel students to go back to their hometowns as a large number of students have been affected.
Even though my daughter was treated at the hospital and came back to the hostel, I am scared to say that she is still vulnerable. We need to find the cause.
