Physiotherapy can be a permanent solution for joint pain
Dr. Rajesh Khanna General and Orthopedic Physiotherapist of Friends Physiotherapist hospital and secretary of Coimbatore Orthopedic Physiotherapists Association has said “In todays mechanical life our body is functioning without any overhauling. Body losses its normalcy and stops functioning after sometime. Maintaining the joints in human body is very important otherwise it will lead to knee pain and arthritis. Today atleast one member of a family is effected by joint problems. On the World Joint Day resons for the joint pains, treatment and prevention has been discussed in this article.
Each joint in the body is important for the body movement. The joints in between our bones are connected by ligaments and are strengthened by muscles. To prevent friction between them a fluid is present. This prevents from the bone from erosion. This fluid will reduce after 60 years of age. Particularly the bones at the knee will create a friction with each other leading to severe pain because of which the people cannot climb stairs, use Indian toilets, sit on the floor, walk for long distances and they seek the help of others for performing the basic tasks.
Even 35-year old people are not spared of this problem. Obesity, food habits, hormonal changes in woman because of which the muscles around the joints gets weaker can result in the ligament being damaged. The whole body weight is balanced by the knee bones. The joint losses the structure and such patients are in need of surgery to set things right. If such problems are detected at an early stage, and the appropriate physiotherapy treatment is provided, the erosion of joints can be prevented.
Rajesh reassures that physiotherapy treatments do not have any side effects of any kind. The weight of the body is reduced and the muscles are strengthened through physiotherapy. As the weight on the knee is reduced the fluid will increase at the knee which will lead to relief in pain. 70% of the joint problems can be cured completely without surgery, injections or any pain killers. Patients can live without pain all their life.
By doing a few self-evaluation tests, one can determine if he or she is suffering from any kind of joint problems:

1. You should touch the big toe in your foot with the middle finger of your hand without bending your legs. If you are unable to touch the big finger you may have a joint problem.

2. As shown in the picture you have to lie down flat. Next, hold your knees with your hands. Then you should raise your foot upwards. If you find that the knee and the foot are not in the same line then you can conclude that you might be suffering from a joint problem.

3. As shown in the picture lie flat on the floor and bend the knee joints. If one knee is lower than the other then time has come for you to check for arthritis.

4. You have to keep both feet close to each other and stand straight. If you have a gap near the knees so big that a water bottle can go through or if you are unable to join the feet then it implies that you may have arthritis.

5. You have to immerse you foot in ink or some colors and place it on a paper and take an imprint as shown in the picture. You should compare that imprint with the above picture. If you have a flat foot or a raised foot you could be suffering from joint problem.
If any one of the experiments mentioned above gives a positive result you have to consult a doctor who specialises in treating problems related to bones or a physiotherapist.
