Coimbatore: The fresh Covid cases in the district have shown a marginal increase and crossed 200 mark after ten days in July.
As many as 20 out of 38 districts in the state have recorded a spike in the fresh Covid cases. While Chennai, Coimbatore and Erode are some of the worst affected districts in the state, Coimbatore has seen a marginal increase and remains top of the list in highest Covid cases. The district saw 230 fresh cases on Friday, crossing the 200 mark after July 21. It was 188 on Thursday. While the fresh cases have been increasing in the past three days, health experts fear more cases in the following days.
One of the public health experts said the usage of masks and social maintenance has not been followed regularly and attributed this to be the reason for the increase.
“The district has been seeing the downward trends in Covid cases in the past few days but it is quite alarming in these three days as it crossed 200 mark. We need to be more cautious and follow the protocols. As the festival months are approaching and tourists are thronging places after the relaxation the cases are rising. Public should be aware and follow the protocols to bring down the spread†said the public health experts.
Meanwhile, state health minister MA. Subramaniam in a press meet said the rise is due to the high RT-PCR tests being done in the state. He said the rise in cases is because of the increase in the number of RT-PCR tests. The health minister said the number of RT-PCR tests done in a single district of Tamil Nadu is equal to the total tests done in a few other states. Meanwhile, health officials are on the track, analysing the factors behind the rise in cases in the district.
