Coronavirus impact in Coimbatore falls below 50 per cent: Slight increase in cases in Thondamuthur, Thudiyalur
Coimbatore: The number of coronavirus victims in Coimbatore went down to less than 50 per cent. At the same time, this percentage has increased slightly in the suburbs of Thondamuthur and Thudiyalur.
In Coimbatore, 70 to 80 per cent of the total number of people infected with the first wave of coronavirus last year lived in the Coimbatore area. Thus extra attention was paid to the corporation area and infection was controlled. Meanwhile when the second wave started it was initially seen more in the Coimbatore corporation area and more than 3,000 staff were assigned to go door-to-door to inspect for colds, flu and oxygen levels. Additional restrictions were imposed on high-risk areas and disinfection was intensified.
The total number of victims was gradually reduced from 65 per cent by various measures taken by the Corporation. The number of people living in the Corporation area has risen to 48.9 per cent of the total number of people infected in the last few days. Officials said the impact has been reduced to less than 50 percent due to various measures taken by the corporation.
In rural areas, Sulur, Madukkarai, Thudiyalur and Annur were the worst hit last month. Currently the infection in this area has been brought under control. But in the last few weeks, the impact in the Thondamuthur area has been less than 5 per cent and now it is 6.68 per cent. In the Thudiyalur area it is 7.51 per cent.
