Coimbatore: The number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 in Coimbatore district, the only district in the state to register the highest number of persons being infected with the virus daily continues to see a fall in daily case load, bringing hope and respite for the people, healthcare officials, doctors and healthcare system that were ravaged in the second wave of Covid-19 along with other frontline workers.
Coimbatore: The number of persons testing positive for COVID-19 in Coimbatore district, the only district in the state to register the highest number of persons being infected with the virus daily continues to see a fall in daily case load, bringing hope and respite for the people, healthcare officials, doctors and healthcare system that were ravaged in the second wave of Covid-19 along with other frontline workers.
Registering 4,734 fresh Covid cases on May 27 which was said to be the highest that the district has ever seen in this second wave, on June 8th Coimbatore recorded only 2,564 people testing positive for Covid-19. Coimbatore is also the only district in the state that saw as many as 4815 discharges in the last 24 hours. The total number of persons tested positive thus far in the district stands at 1,90,593.
This aside, the daily fatality cases due to COVID-19 in the district is also on the decline and 26 more deaths were registered in the last 24 hours. Meanwhile, the state on the whole is also said to have registered a steady fall in terms of daily fatalities.
Tamil Nadu, on 30th May 2021 touched its highest number of 493 patients who succumbed to Covid. Since then, daily deaths are declining. In the last 24 hours, the state recorded 351 deaths. The steady decline comes in the last one week when the state has been in full lockdown due to COVID.
Meanwhile, the Tamil Nadu government on Monday announced relaxations for the districts where the cases have reduced. However, Coimbatore, Erode, Tirupur, Salem, Namakkal and other few districts are in complete lockdown where only few relaxations have been allowed, to bring down the cases. Erode, one of the Kongu districts has become the second district in the state to record more daily cases, next to Coimbatore. The district saw 1,646 cases in the last 24 hours, surpassing Chennai and Tirupur. The highest that the district recorded was 1,784 on May 30th. This again indicates that the cases are declining though it stands at second place in relation to most number of cases.
