Coimbatore: We are in the middle of a crises when physically visiting a medical facility for consultation or treatment can do more bad than good.
A Coimbatore-based politician from PMK has taken perfect advantage of technology to bridge the physical gap between a patient and doctor. Ashok Srinithi who serves as State Deputy Secretary of the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) started what is called Kaikul Maruthuvam which when translated means medical help in your hands.
All it takes is just a phone call to seek medical attention. Two doctors, one male and another female will answer phone calls from men and women callers respectivelly. Medical related questions and doubts will be answered. Launched on Tuesday, 25 May, this novel tele medical project is functional on all 7 days of the week between Monday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm.
Funded out of his own pocket, Ashok kick-started this ambitious project with zero investment and the two designated doctors who answer questions from callers will be paid a monthly salary. “Need of the hour to cater to people who are sceptical to step out of their home to seek medical help. While women callers are requested to call the lady doctor, the men can dial the number of the male doctor for help.” Ashok told SimpliCity. In just four days of the project being launched, the help lines have received more than 100 calls and the doctors have offered respite.
