"Covid-19 infections will decline in June in Coimbatore:" Health Department

Coimbatore: With the second wave of Covid-19 virus spiking in Tamil Nadu, Chennai, Coimbatore, Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram and Thiruvallur districts have been worst-hit.

After the imposition of a complete curfew which is currently in effect, the impact of the virus is less in districts like Chennai and Chengalpattu. Areas within Coimbatore Corporation continue to be affected, with ever-increasing cases being reported even in containment zones. More than 38,000 people are being treated in Government and private hospitals.

Health officials state that the daily impact has exceeded 4000 cases. In the first week of March this year, Coimbatore's Covid-19 cases were less than 2 percent but rose to 45.8 as of Tuesday. "The spread of Covid-19 in Coimbatore has increased to a level not seen in any other district in Tamil Nadu. Apart from that, the spread in Coimbatore has been over 30 percent over the last two weeks. Measures are being taken to control the spread of Covid-19 as in Kerala and Maharashtra, which were earlier affected largely by Covid-19 infections, before Tamil Nadu."

According to health officials, the spread of Covid-19 infections in Coimbatore is likely to decrease in the first week of June and various measures are being taken to control the spread of the disease, such as isolating those who have been confirmed with the infection as well as isolating the houses where residents have been infected, carrying out inspections, increasing the number of tests for early treatment and intensifying vaccination drives for those infected.
