Coimbatore: A new Covid-19 ward will be set-up in CODISSIA complex in Coimbatore. District Corporation Commissioner Kumaravel in a press meet said that "The spread of Covid-19 virus in Coimbatore is on the rise again. Public are requested to wear a face mask.
Fine will be issued to the ones who don't wear masks. Covid-19 protocols and guidelines will be made mandatory at vegetable shops, markets, salons, shopping malls, business centers etc.
Customers must be checked with thermal scanners, pulse oximeters before entering shops. This must be followed at all times and the check up must be undertaken like fine at hospitals.
Shops, shopping malls and all other businesses should mandatorily comply with the Covid-19 guidelines like social distancing, dispensing of sanitizers, etc.
Apart from this, people are only allowed to sit and travel in the busses to avoid overcrowding. All weddings and other gatherings will be limited to 50%. Such measures are taken to contain the sudden hike of Covid-19 cases in Coimbatore.
We request the elderly and the sick to not come out of their houses unnecessarily. Outbound trips should be avoided. Travellers should isolate themselves at home to prevent the spread of the disease to those at home.
Every day between 180 and 220 people are infected with the Covid-19 virus within corporation limits. Covid-19 tests and vaccinations are given at government hospitals for free.
Everyone should come and get the vaccine first. We are going to bring a mobile vaccination program, which will take the vaccines in the vehicles and go to the streets of the corporation and vaccinate everyone there. The project is scheduled to start on the 11th of April.
The spread of Covid-19 virus has been increasing in the Corporation limits for a week. If more than 3 people turn positive for Covid-19 then the streets will be considered as a containment zone. So far 35 streets are under the containment zone. Of these, 11 are in the South Zone, 10 in the North Zone, 10 in the East Zone, 2 in the West Zone and 2 in the Central Zone.
Corporation officials are advised to kindly approach the shopkeepers and business runners while urging them to follow Covid-19 guidelines. Schools must follow government relations, actions will be taken on those schools which don't follow them.
Kabasuga Drink is kept in stock. It's given to workers and will be distributed in public places.
Around 2,500 - 3,000 tests are being taken in Coimbatore district at more than 31 labs out of which more than 25 are private labs. We have a well balanced staffing service, more will be hired if required.
More Ambulances will be kept ready to bring Covid-19 infected people. Currently there are 3 Covid-19 treatment centers Karunya, Barathiar and Anna University. Additionally a Covid-19 center is to be opened in the CODISSIA grounds.
As a part of the first phase, 700 beds are added to the center. There are zero reports of a new strain Covid-19 virus in Coimbatore so far." said Coimbatore CorporationCommissioner Kumaravel Pandian.
