Dr. Rajesh Kanna who represented the Physiotherapists Union also requested that a complete checkup of participants must be done by physiotherapists before the beginning of Jallikattu like any other sports.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore Physiotherapists Union issued a press release in which Physiotherapists Union head Dr. Rajesh Kanna said "During the Jallikattu event, doctors from the veterinary department perform a thorough checkup of the bulls and advise the owners to maintain certain regulations which are to be followed prior and during the event which prohibits poking the bulls with needles, giving them alcohol and applying chilli powder to the eyes of the bulls etc."
He also said that there are no such rules and regulations for the participants taking part in Jallikattu, due to which deaths and injuries are rising every year.
Dr. Rajesh Kanna also requested the government to allocate physiotherapists at every Jallikattu venue along with ambulances and other doctors to help with injuries.
He further requested the government to provide participants with safety gears for chest, stomach etc to prevent deaths and other critical injuries. Dr. Rajesh Kanna also requested for water based liquids like glucose to keep the players from getting dehydrated.
