Obstetrics emergencies and pain relief in labour to be discussed at 'Labour Congress 2019' by Ganga Women and Child Centre
Coimbatore: Over 500 delegates across the country are expected to take part in the international conference organised by Ganga Women and Child Centre here. With an objective to address the pargmatic approach and current concepts of labour, the '5th Labour Congress 2019' will commence on on August 30 at Ganga Hospital Auditorium, Mettupalayam Road, Coimbatore.
Addressing a press conference here, Ganga Women and Child Centre's, Senior Obstetrician and Head of the Department Dr.Suma Natarajan said "Motherhood is a beautiful experience. But it can turn into a tragedy when the family loses the most precious member of the family – 'the mother'. Each year more than half a million women die in the world out of complications arising during pregnancy. And, millions of women suffer from permanent disabilities following these complications."
"Most complications arising in pregnancy, labour or puerperium are preventable and treatable. Good prenatal care, risk – screening and referrals supported by well organized 'First Referral Centres' with proper transportation and blood transfusion services during emergencies, ensure safe motherhood", opined Dr. Suma Natarajan.
She further added that providing care for women especially in labour is a privilege and a responsibility of all Obstetricians. "We all need to follow a strategy that is universally accepted to help women go through the journey of safe motherhood", she said.
The first day of the conference will be marked by workshop on different topics like communication skill, still birth, non-haemorrhagic obstetrics emergencies and pain relief in labour. And, during the second and third day of the conference, International Speaker, Prof. Arul Kumaran and 24 National faculties will be sharing their experiences in labour management.
The Conference will be inaugurated by Dr.Kezevino Aram, Director, Shanthi Ashram, Arunachalam Murugunantham, Entrepreneur & Health Crusader will be facilitated, and other dignitaries including Kanagavalli Shanmugunathan, Managing Director, Ganga Hospital, Prof.Arulkumaran UK, and Dr.P.C.
