Every one experiences diarrhoea atleast once in their lifetime. In simpler words is loose stools. There are many causes of loose stools however, people with inflammatory bowel disease frequently suffer from diarrhoea. Several times, there are foods that can cause loose stools. For example, Bengal gram, spicy foods especially rich with red chilli powder can lead to loose stools.

Beverages like caffeine and milk (sometimes) can also cause diarrhoea. Even contaminated foods have bacteria, virus and toxins that can dis-balance the regular bowel movements. While there is a cure for diarrohoea, you also need to keep a check on what all you eat. Drinking salt and sugar mixed water can help treat diarrhoea but drinking a glass of hot milk can worsen the situation.

So, here is a list of few foods that causes loose stools. If you frequently suffer from diarrhoea, avoid these foods.

1. Citrus fruits: Citrus fruits are acidic in nature. So they cause distress in gastrointestinal tract and can also lead to loose stools. As citrus fruits are nutritious, you can have them in small quantities with soluble fiber. The fiber absorbs acid and prevents digestive problems.

2. Cabbage: Cabbage contains sulphur and insoluble fiber that leads to gas and digests slowly too. This can cause loose stools.

3. Garlic: Garlic too contains insoluble fiber which forms gas in the gastrointestinal system.

4. Beans: Legumes such as beans are one of the most common foods that cause diarrhoea. They are difficult to digest and can enter the large intestine undigested at times. This causes flatulence and diarrhoea.

5. Spicy foods: Spicy and oily foods do not get digested easily. They cause gastric problems and can even affect your bowel movements.

6. Hot peppers: Capsaicin in hot peppers can cause loose stools. Hot peppers do not immediately cause diarrhoea. Consume hot peppers in small amounts to have a healthy stomach.
