Poor eating habits lead to several problems. Here are some home tips which will eliminate issues around the stomach

In our daily routine, there are end numbers of things we do as habit which without bothering to see if it is right or wrong. People only care when their habits start creating physical problems to them.

According to Preeti Jain, senior dietician at the Action Cancer Hospital, New Delhi: “It is hard for us to believe that these things may create any difference in our lives but that’s true, there are different habits and rituals which are not good for health. Our eating habit is one of those. As much as it is important to eat the right food, it’s important to eat correctly. There may not be any specified rules to eat food but they certainly are some pointers one may avoid.”

People usually do not bother to eat on the right time and in right amount. They do not pay attention to what amount of nutrient or fibre they are consuming daily and in this time and age, it is must to eat correctly.

According to Ayurvedacharya Dr Partap Chauhan, Director Jiva Ayurveda says: “Ama (uncooked food) is the toxic material that is produced by undigested food. Therefore, one must make sure that one eats only the amount and type of foods one can digest properly. Avoid over-eating and eating frequently. Eat a light breakfast and dinner. Lunch should be the main meal.”

Things to Avoid While Eating

  • Watching TV: Watching TV while eating may is a distraction which may lead to binging. Extra eating is unhealthy. One should only eat to fulfill the body’s requirement not its craving.
  • Reading: Reading is another distraction while eating. Eating food is a business to be done with concentration because eating in the right manner allows food to get digested properly.
  • Wrong posture: Sitting in a wrong posture doesn’t allow the food to digest properly which may cause indigestion and lead to weight gain.
  • Talking and eating: Do not talk too much while eating as that may choke the foodpipe.
  • Avoid eating at the desk: Desk dining is the practice of eating meal at one’s office desk, which must be avoided at all costs as it stresses the stomach.
  • Avoid fruit between meals: Eating fruit between meals must be avoided in order to balance nutrition with carbohydrates.
  • Chew well: We all have studied the chapter on digestive system in school. The food we eat be chewed properly, so that it turns into small compounds and further converts into energy Chewing food is thus very important.
  • Drinking excessive water: Stomach should be filled with equal proportion of food water and air and their amount should not overlap with each other.
  • Do not bathe just after a meal: Body needs relaxation of at least 10 to 15 minutes after a wholesome meal. Bathing immediately after eating should be avoided.
