Ukkadam-Athupalam Phase II flyover works: Officials said land acquisition work will begin soon.
Coimbatore:Officials said land acquisition work will begin soon for the Ukkadam-Athupalam Phase II flyover works. First phase of the Coimbatore Ukkadam - Athupalam flyover from Ukkadam to Karumbukkadai is 75 percent complete. The second phase of flyover work from the Karumbukadai to Athupalam is expected to start soon. Revenue Department officials said that the land acquisition work for this will begin soon,
The Coimbatore Ukkadam-Athupalam road is the main road to Pollachi and connects Kerala via Kuniyamuthur. Construction work on the 1.9 km flyover between Ukkadam-Athupalam began in April 2018 due to traffic congestion on the road. In the first phase, Rs 216 crore has been allocated for the flyover work between Ukkadam and Karumbukadai, Ukkadam. 55 pillars have been erected up to Karumbukadai, in which the work of laying the runway has been completed. Work is in progress to set up a roundabout on the flyover near the Ukkadam bus stand.
Meanwhile, work on the second phase of the flyover from the Karumbukadaito the Athupalam is expected to begin soon.
According to the State Highways Department, "A tender of Rs 152 crore has been sought for the second phase of the Ukkadam-Athupalam bridge. In a couple of months, the second phase of flyover work will begin. The first phase of the flyover is 75 percent complete. Landings are to be laid at three places on the Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover. U-shaped ramps and landings are to be set up in three areas including Podanur section, Athupalam and Ukkadam bus stand."
Revenue officials said, "Land has been acquired from Ukkadam to the Karumbukadai for the first phase of the Ukkadam-Athupalam flyover. Land acquisition for the second phase of the flyoverfrom Karumbukadai to Athupalam will begin soon. Review meetings will be held for this. Then, with the consent of the landowners, the land will be acquired and compensation will be paid immediately."
