Nivar: Ticket amount of cancelled trains to be refunded to passengers' account; IRCTC requests passengers to use online ticket booking service

Coimbatore: As several trains were cancelled due to Nivar, the Southern railways has announced that ticket amount pertaining to cancelled trains will be refunded to the passengers' account.

Recently, passengers were seen waiting in long queues at railway stations, including Coimbatore, to get their tickets refunded, owing to cancellation of trains due to the recent Nivar Cyclone. To avoid over crowding at stations in this pandemic situation, the IRCTC Salem has been encouraging passengers to book and cancel tickets through online.

An official from Salem Divisional Railway official said, "For those who book tickets on the IRCTC website, the ticket money will be refunded to their respective bank account. Those passengers who have booked tickets at railway stations can get refund of their ticket anytime within 6 months, however unaware of this people rush to railway stations to get the refunded amount the same day."

He added that in the current scenario people should use online ticket booking and avoid standing in queues at railway stations.
