Coimbatore Corporation collects ₹84 crores in tax

Coimbatore: Coimbatore Corporation collects Rs 84 crores in tax. With only 3 months for the current financial year the Coimbatore Corporation said taxes of about Rs 84 crore have been levied.

Tax collection in Coimbatore has been temporarily halted since last April due to the Coronavirus pandemic. As a result, property tax collection in the city has intensified since last July. 29 tax collection centers have been set up to make it easier for people to pay property tax, such as corporation offices, schools and social welfare centers.

Meanwhile, a list of companies, academies, hospitals and shopping malls that do not pay the highest taxes in metropolitan areas was released last October and was warned that drinking water pipes will be disconnected in the buildings of those who do not pay property tax. A warning was issued on behalf of the corporation administration that action would be taken to confiscate such buildings. As a result, taxes are being collected in all the 5 zones under the Coimbatore Corporation.

An official of the corporation said, "Out of the total property tax of Rs. 169 crores, Rs. 84 crores has been collected and target is set to collect the remaining Rs 85 crore tax by March 2021".
