Around 400 participants comprising UG, PG and PhD students attended the Endowment Lecture.
Coimbatore: Coimbatore's Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) and Bengaluru's National Centre for Biological Sciences had signed an MoU for research, academic collaboration and human resource development on April 29.

In continuation of the MoU, an Endowment Lecture was jointly organized by the Dean and Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics on Wednesday at the TNAU campus. Around 400 participants including UG, PG and PhD students attended the Endowment Lecture.

R Gnanam, the Professor and Head of the Department of Plant Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics welcomed the gathering. N Senthil, Director, Centre for Plant Molecular Biology and Biotechnology introduced the guest speaker to the audience. R Thamizh Vendan, Registrar, TNAU delivered the special address at the Endowment Lecture in which a DBT-sponsored 'Virtual Workshop - Computational Genomics' was also inaugurated.
Around 2300 applicants registered for the virtual workshop, out of which 200 applicants were shortlisted. The Endowment lecture was delivered by Prof. R Sowdhamini, National Centre for Biological Sciences, TIFR, Bengaluru. Prof R Sowthamini, shared her experience in genome and transcriptome anlaysis of Ocimum tenuiflorum (Krishna tulsi), Cissus quadrangularis (Pirandai), Moringa oleifera (Murangai) and Clitoria ternatea (sangu pushpam). She also narrated the importance of secondary metabolites from medicinal plants for healthy living. D Uma, Professor and Head Department of Biochemistry proposed the vote of thanks in conclusion.
