Nearly, 200 students and faculty participated in the event with various environmental awareness slogans showcased as part of the cycle rally.
Coimbatore: The Department of Environmental Sciences, TNAU in Coimbatore comprising UG, PG, and Ph.D students organized an Environmental Day Awareness Cycle Rally on June 6.

The rally was flagged off by Vice-Chancellor V Geethalakshmi, TNAU, Coimbatore. The Registrar, University Officers and Heads of Departments of various faculties, staff and students participated in the event. Nearly, 200 students and faculty showcased various environmental awareness slogans as part of the cycle rally.
Maheswari, Professor and Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences welcomed the gathering and highlighted the importance of the 50th World Environment Day which was celebrated worldwide on June 5. P Balasubramaniam, Director (DNRM) deliberated on the importance of the conservation of natural resources. Vice-Chancellor V Geethalakshmi elaborated on the importance of soil, water and atmosphere, and the ways to conserve and preserve them for future generations.

The “One Student, One Tree†program was conducted at TNAU and prizes and certificates were awarded to students.

Various on and off-stage events were conducted by the students in an effort to create awareness for the conservation of resources. R V Shanmugasundaram, ESREE Foundation, ITC Limited Wellbeing out of Waste (WOW) created awareness about recycling concepts among students. Representatives from Bheema Jewellers also participated in the event, whcih was concluded with P Dhevagi, a Professor proposing a formal vote of thanks.
