Creating, retaining and enhancing the talents of young kids is one of the big challenges of the 21st century in India. The other challenge is to provide more access for education to kids belonging to all sections of the society.

Coimbatore has for long been blessed with great educational institutions that focused on everything from primary school to quality higher education. Coimbatore quickly recognised the need for preschools too and had quality preschools from the 80s onwards.

Today many young and educated entrepreneurs are entering the education fields with their own vision of education and trying to create a good landscape for the future generations of Coimbatore.

One of them is Keerthana Elango, a young budding entrepreneur from Coimbatore who has spread her wings to startup a best-in-class preschool that is aimed at providing holistic education and making education available to all through her latest venture, Doon Public School which focuses on preschool and nursery education now. The school was started in October of 2018 and has been received well.

Among other things, she is also associated with 'The White Swan Foundation (NIMHANS, Bengaluru), an organization which helps adults and children with special needs. 'Kays' an organic food retailing company is also being managed by her.

The school & public service

The school premises is state of art and has amazing facilities. Its a matter of pride to see that Coimbatore is being pampered with world class facilities with regard to education. No wonder it is has become a centre for educational excellence.

The 'Doon Public School' is the first in Coimbatore to offer live surveillance. The parents can see what their kid is upto from any part of the world. The school is endowed with thematic classrooms and has resource people who are both skilled and committed. Keerthana was eager to share more details about her ' Main School ' at Mathampalayam.

" The school will have an Artificial Intelligence Lab, Robotics Lab, Tissue Culture, Digital Language Lab, Digital Library, Math Lab and other things. We will have both the CBSE and IGCSE boards. The school will be very modern while being endowed with good aesthetics."

On queried why she is promoting a school in spite of being in active business, " I love kids. The school and its proceeds are for creating a positive impact in the society. The goal is to make enough money in order to serve the society. A part of the proceeds will go to enable the poor children who are in need of education and skills.

'Doon Public School' hopes to make the kids multi faceted and wholistic development will be the priority. That does not mean that we will make academic compromises. The goal of education is ' becoming ' a good person. Our school will offer an integrated curriculum. It is a ' one of a kind ' with regard to state of art and technology. Our emphasis will be on extra curricular activities.

Golf, Yoga, Skating, Swimming, Theatre, Music and Dance will be part of the programme. We have a ' Toddlers Class', Play Group I & II, LKG and UKG at this facility. The child will be here from the time it can walk until the time it can express itself on paper. It is a ' onestop place '. We ensure that the skills are ' built to last ' in the kids. "

The school premises is plush and has top class facilities. Its a matter of pride to see that Coimbatore is being pampered with world class facilities with regard to education. No wonder Coimbatore has become a centre for educational excellence. Keerthana Elango is keen to offer the fine facilities at her school for social causes at no cost.

"We wish to choose deserving children for free education at our school. Organizations like Rotary or Round Table will be requested to help us identify these kids. Our kids and teachers will volunteer to support the students of the nearby Government and aided schools both in Coimbatore and in our Mathampalayam Centre.

We will also do excursions or field trips for the under privileged kids regularly. Our school will admit kids with learning disabilities for we wish to keep the institution inclusive. Our out reach programmes in the villages will focus on cleaniliness, hygiene and inculcation of a good value system.

The school will also focus on local hygiene and the preservation of environment in this region. We will try to make the general public aware about the good aspects of nurturing the environment. On a later date we will try to help students financially for pursuing their higher education. We will go village by village and pursue an outreach programme. Through this we will mentor the girl child and this will be in the interest of making them competitive in the long run.

The school will also involve itself on a regular basis with the neighbourhood and be a part of the local society. We will create a book pool and talent pool in order to offer the same to the underprivileged kids. The parents of our kids will also be requested to participate along with us on a voluntary basis. Our objective will be to share of resources be it financial or human in the interest of the society while getting the kids ready for life.

Community based skill development will also be a focus for us in the long run. Tree planting and care thereafter, solid waste management, prevention of littering and keeping the society free from alcohol abuse will be looked into by us. All the ' Doon Schools ' have been working with a social concern.

Language skills and life skills are important and we will try to address them in the long run. We wish do redefine education with concern, equity and empathy through inclusivity for the poorest of the poor will also be studying in our school, " stated Keerthana while speaking about her social and philanthropic intent.

Keerthana has a couple of role models and is expecting a patent too shortly. "I wish to do an MBA from Harvard within the next 5 years. My role models are Sundar Pitchai, Oprah Winfrey and Sheryl Sandberg. She has discovered something which will be a medication for curing a hangover and she is looking forward to getting this patented shortly. The school is managed professionally and earnestly plans to offer quality education while also helping underprivileged kids.

Keerthana was much impressed by the Chinese work ethic and hopes we create a similar culture here in India. She spoke at length about her visit to Shanghai and how it impacted her. "It was at Shangai that I was thinking of New York , 'The city which never sleeps' but Shangai is 'The city which never sits'. Hats off to the hard working people of Asia. It is going to be an Asian Millennium. No wonder the Chinese are adding to their skills and wealth while on the move.

We should try to emulate their aspects connected with self sufficiency even while exporting goods around the world. They have their own search engine 'Baidu' and 'Wechat' which is their own WhatsApp. Most of the western social media enterprises do not work in China. These Chinese ventures are a major source of revenue and employment for the country."

Coimbatore is a good ground for entrepreneurs and educationists like Keerthana and the coming years will bear the fruits of the labour of such entrepreneurs
