BizCity : Roles, Responsibilities and Resolutions

Generally, Roles & Responsibilities are confined to more formal establishments. As we grow, we realise that seeds for these formal roles are sown as we begin our journey from our Child hood. Freudians believe Character of an individual is a result of their upbringing, mostly up to about first 7 Years of Life. After which, irrespective of levels of training and education, modifications are only possible and that too in conducive environs.

Let’s Reprise them, as much as we Cherish them, with utmost Care

Generally, Roles & Responsibilities are confined to more formal establishments. As we grow, we realise that seeds for these formal roles are sown as we begin our journey from our Child hood. Freudians believe Character of an individual is a result of their upbringing, mostly up to about first 7 Years of Life. Interpersonal communications as per Psychologists defines three Ego Statuses - Parent, Adult, Child. While these concepts are widely used for Organisational effectiveness, all of us play these roles in our everyday life as need arises or as we deem it necessary, and mostly sub-consciously.

PERSONAL:

We are Children to Parents, Parents to Children & Adults to Friends, Peers. We have our Responsibilities to be executed in each of these roles. It’s also true these roles change and many times reverse as we go through our ageing process and our families - both pseudo and extended, grow.

Normal interpersonal issues and communication barriers can be side-stepped if we are careful not to reverse roles too quickly or untimely or uncalled for situations. Given the socio economic compulsions, it is a natural tendency to digress from normal expectations. In every Role, there are expectations beyond self and it is important we reprise these Roles to the Satisfaction of our Families and Social Circles.

It’s nothing more important than earning a good name and life for ourselves making Parents, Siblings and Teachers Happy. This is our first priority. Once we do this, naturally we will be a good Parent & Mentor.

PROFESSIONAL:

One of the Noble Professions and where the heart surrenders is Teaching. Great Teachers make a Great Nation. What we are and what we will be completely depends on our Teachers as families become more nucleus and dual career.

We have different Roles in our Profession too, much similar to Family. I believe our Profession is nothing but an extension of personal Self.  A good leader has to be a good follower and this is important as we start our Professional journey. Paternalistic styles of Management are ever successful as they bring in an emotional connect. Benefits of such a connect across an Organisation need not be overemphasised.

In our Professional Roles, while there are many who influence and get influenced, Integrity and Commitment are paramount to be successful. This will make everyone around us proud.

RESOLUTIONS

As we evolve over the Years through our life, learning will be a continuous process. This is important for us to gracefully age. While fundamentals remain same, we can adapt well to the changes only when we Learn. Primary Resolution should be to keep Learning.

Our Behaviour too changes positively as we commit to Learn. Of course, there are many exceptions - financial frauds which have impacted society are caused by some highly educated and intelligent people.

Some of the important Resolutions are to keep ourselves healthy and fit, so that all connected with us are free from worrying about us, leave alone the cost of being not healthy. Habits should be appreciable, as today it is Leading & Living by example. We should keep a check on our consumption & spend. Make sure that we don’t pollute the environment & society through opulence. This is important as individuals, as professionals and as businessmen.

This could be built on and on. In simplistic terms, we are Responsible for the Society, Family, Institutions and the Organisation that belongs to us and we belong to. And, we should Resolve to upkeep the decorum of each Role we play.
