Bharti Airtel is offering 1,000 GB of high-speed data to its broadband customers in a limited-period scheme, amid heightened competition in the telecom sector, triggered by Reliance Jio's aggressive offering. Under Airtel's new scheme, called "Airtel Broadband Big Byte Offer", Airtel is offering 500-1,000 GB of bonus data in monthly rental plans ranging from Rs. 599 to Rs. 1,999, according to its website - airtel.in. This bonus data, which comes in speeds from 8 Mbps to 100 Mbps depending on the plan, is valid till March 31, 2018, the Airtel website showed.
The offer is "valid only for online purchase", Bharti Airtel's website noted.
Airtel's Broadband Big Byte Offer is available for customers subscribing to its DSL services on or after June 12, 2017, it said. "The Offer is valid only in India and redeemable only upon taking fresh subscriptions to Airtel's select DSL broadband rental plans in accordance with the present terms and conditions," Airtel said. The scheme is not valid for special, commercial or enterprise plans and cannot be combined with any other offer by Airtel, it added.
For example, in the National Capital Region, Airtel is offering 1000 GB of bonus data in monthly rental plans of Rs. 1099, Rs. 1299, Rs. 1499 and Rs. 1799. Airtel's broadband plans come with a phone connection and also include calls - local as well as STD. The "bonus data" being offered is in addition to the base plan quota in each plan.
Here's what Airtel's broadband plan offerings in Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida look like:

How to avail Airtel's bonus 1,000 GB offer
To avail the offer, eligible customers are required to visit the airtel.in/broadband page.
Once on the site, select the base plan, enter your mobile number and address to raise a request for a new broadband connection "or contact customer care to apply for subscription to Airtel Broadband services", Airtel said.
The additional data benefit will be applicable seven days after activation of the connection and only after the customer exhausts the base plan quota - a predefined quantity of data that comes with a plan. "Upon subscription to one of the select plans under the present Offer, and upon expiry of a period of 7 days following the date of activation of their new connection, a customer shall, subject to feasibility at the point of connection, be able to enjoy additional big byte GB, in addition to the base plan chosen by them, which may be enjoyed at the same speed as per chosen base plan ('Free Subscription Internet')," the Airtel website noted.
What happens to unused data?
Airtel also said, "un-used Big Bytes data will be carried over each month till 31st March 2018 or the GBs getting over whichever is first". For example, if 500 GB Big Bytes is provisioned to customer with a base plan quota of 60 GB, then Big Byte GB consumption will start after the customer consumes the 60 GBs of the plan, the telecom major explained
Free voice calls and aggressive pricing of data by new entrant Reliance Jio has led to intensified competition in India's telecom sector, impacting the revenue of many incumbent players. Many telecom operators are revising their existing tariffs and announcing new schemes to protect their market share, some analysts say.
Reliance Jio is also expected to come up with its broadband services, called JioFiber.
Bharti Airtel, India's top telecoms operator, reported its smallest profit in 18 quarters as a price war sparked by an upstart carrier weighed on earnings. On a consolidated basis, Bharti Airtel's profit - which includes Bharti's Africa operations and its Indian satellite TV business among others - fell 75 per cent to Rs. 367 crore in the April-June quarter, it said last month.
Meanwhile, the telecom major has announced a special offer for its prepaid users with 1GB data per day for a period of 84 days. Priced at Rs. 399, this special offer from Airtel is applicable only on 4G handsets with 4G SIMs and comes with unlimited calls - local and STD - on all networks.
