AHEAD has announced the new hotels across North and South America that are up for awards in 12 categories, with four entries shortlisted in each.
The categories range from overall acknowlegements for the best resort and urban hotels, to more specific prizes for facilities like guest rooms, event spaces and restaurants.

Leading the nominations this year is 1 Hotel Brooklyn Bridge in New York's Dumbo neighbourhood, which was shortlisted in six categories.
Public – the Herzog & de Meuron hotel that developer Ian Schrager opened in Manhattan to counter the threat from Airbnb – received four shortlist places, level with the renovated and expanded Four Seasons Hotel The Surf Club in Miami Beach.

Also featured on the shortlist are The Drifter Hotel in New Orleans, which occupies a renovated 1950s motel, and the Calistoga Motor Lodge & Spa in California, with interiors designed to look like a fictitious Wes Anderson film.
Shortlisted projects are from across the two continents, and include getaway venues in Canada, Mexico, Nicaragua and Brazil.
The include Rio de Janeiro's Emiliano Hotel, where guests can overlook the famous Copacabana Beach while bathing in a rooftop swimming pool.
The winners will be announced at the OMA-designed Faena Forum venue in Miami Beach on 12 June 2018. Tickets for the event are available now from the AHEAD Awards website.

AHEAD's annual awards programme celebrates exemplary architecture and interiors of hotel around the world. The winners of the 2018 AHEAD Asia were announced in March, while the results of the AHEAD Middle East and Africa awards will be released in June.
The recipients from each region will go on to compete in AHEAD's Global Biennale, when overall worldwide winners will be chosen.
