'Crops to be pre-registered under Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana:' Coimbatore District Collector

Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran has stated that farmers who take loans from cooperative societies will have to register under the crop insurance scheme with primary agricultural cooperative banks, private and nationalised banks to insure their crops.


Coimbatore: In order to provide financial assistance to farmers for the losses incurred due to unforeseen climatic changes while cultivating crops and to stabilise farm income, a scheme implementation order has been obtained for insuring farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in Coimbatore district for the rabi annual season of 2022-23.

Coimbatore District Collector G S Sameeran issued a statement in this regard stating, "In the current year, 26 pirkas have been announced for banana, 4 pirkas for brinjal, 6 pirkas for onion, 14 pirkas for tomato, 4 pirka for tapioca and 1 pirka for coriander crop. Farmers availing loans under this scheme in cooperative societies will have to register with the nearest Primary Agricultural Cooperative Banks, private and nationalised banks and under the crop insurance scheme of their choice, to insure the above crops. Registration can be done through authorized agents of the insurance company implementing the scheme, common service centres, banks and primary agricultural cooperative societies. Under this scheme, crop insurance charges are Rs. 12,036 per hectare for banana, Rs. 4,230 for tapioca, Rs. 2,878 for brinjal, Rs. 5,477 for onion, Rs. 3,674 for tomatoes, and Rs. 1,531 for coriander. The last date for cilantro to insure farmers for rabi 2022-23 season is 18.01.2023, for onion, tomato and brinjal the last date is 31.12.2022 and for banana and tapioca crops the last date is 28.02.2023. Therefore, farmers are requested to pay the sum insured under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and register their crops in advance."
