Coimbatore: It has been decided to include classes 1 to 10 in the Scholarship Scheme for Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.
The scheme of pre-matric (9-10 classes) scholarship scheme for the children of unhygienic professionals (shoe stitching, leather factory, cleaning, etc.) provided by the District Adi Dravidar and Tribal Welfare Department to the students of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes will be merged with the scheme of integrated pre-matric scholarship scheme from the coming academic year.
In a press release, the district administration said, "All the students applying for the same will have to open a new bank account along with their Aadhaar number and mobile number and ensure that it is made functional. Students with an annual family income of less than Rs 2.50 lakh will have to approach the scholarship help desk already created in the respective schools and colleges and upload their application online."
All educational institutions are also required to mandatorily upload the details of their students on the National Scholarship Portal. Further, no tuition fee shall be charged at the time of admission of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Adi Dravidar converted to Christianity in self-financing educational institutions. In case of such collection, a complaint can be lodged either directly to the District Collector or the District Adi Dravidar Welfare Officer or through telephone number 0422-2302589.
