Southern Railways has announced that unreserved express trains between Coimbatore-Pollachi and Palani will be operated at the request of passengers.

On the Coimbatore-Podanur-Pollachi 40 km stretch, electrification work on the wide gauge railway track has been completed. Trains on this route were last operated in March 2020. After a lull of 17 months, with a decline in Coronavirus infections, commuters have insisted that trains ought to resume operations on the route.
Following this, the Railway Board has given permission to resume train services from Coimbatore via Podanur and Pollachi. According to a press release issued by the Southern Railway Head Office 06463 Coimbatore, "Palani Special will leave Coimbatore at 2.10 pm on November 10 and arrive at Palani at 4.40 pm the next day. 06462 Palani-Coimbatore Express will leave Palani at 11.15 am on November 11 and arrive at Coimbatore at 2 pm the next day.
These trains will stop at Podanur, Kinathukadavu, Pollachi, Komangalam, Udumalaipettai, Maiwadi Road and Pushpathur railway stations. 06479 Palani-Madurai Superfast Special will leave Palani at 4.45 pm on November 10 and arrive in Madurai at 7.40 pm the next day."
"Train No. 06480 Madurai-Palani Superfast Special will leave Madurai at 7.20 am on November 11 and arrive at Palani at 10.10 am the next day. 06419 Coimbatore-Pollachi Superfast Special will leave Coimbatore at 6.15 pm on all days except Sundays from November 13 to reach Pollachi at 7.45 pm the next day. Train No. 06420 Pollachi-Coimbatore Superfast Special will leave Pollachi at 7.25 am on November 14 and arrive at Coimbatore at 8.40 am the next day. These trains stop at Podanur and Kinathukadavu railway stations for one minute," according to the press release.
