With daily cases hovering close to 250 and a slow-paced vaccination drive at place in the district, the health department is keen on ensuring sufficient beds, oxygen requirements ready, after sero-surveillance reports reveal that only 48% of the population in Coimbatore have already been exposed to the virus.
Health care setup to handle asymptomatic and patients who require critical care are in place at both government and private hospitals, said District Collector Sameeran, on Tuesday.
7183 normal beds, 4526 beds with oxygen supply, 646 beds at intensive care units -- a total of 12,335 beds are ready in the district. All hospitals approved to treat Covid have been notified to to ramp up special care units for children. A total of 1,699 beds -- 573 regular beds, 959 beds with oxygen facilities, 167 beds in intensive care units are available to treat children affected with Covid, he stated.
Necessary steps have been taken to set up 14 isolation centers of which 2 will be Siddha treatment centres. Liquid oxygen storage centres have been setup to store cylinders, briefed the Collector.
Besides, PHC’s, special care units for pregnant women are also arranged. And 2,233 oxygen concentrators are in place at government hospitals. While an additional 2,488 cylinders are kept ready in private hospitals, to handle emergency situations, he added.
