Coimbatore: The Coimbatore District Collector, Dr. G S Sameeran has announced new Covid lockdown restrictions in the city which would be implemented in Coimbatore district from Tuesday, including allowing vegetable and grocery shops to operate only from 6 am to 5 pm.
A consultative meeting with trade union representatives was held at the Coimbatore Collectorate today under the chairmanship of the District Collector. "Additional controls will be implemented across the district from Tuesday (August 3) with some restrictions already in place to curb the growing spread of Covid-19 infection in Coimbatore district.
Accordingly, grocery stores, bakeries and tea shops will be allowed to operate from 6 am to 5 pm. Fish and meat shops will be allowed to operate from 6 am to 2 pm, while TASMAC outlets are allowed to operate from 10 am to 5 pm. Public viewing of tourist sites and museums has been prohibited.
All parks are to be closed to the public on Sundays. Malls and multinational shopping malls in the district will not be allowed to operate on Sundays, while restaurants in malls will be called to comply with the already announced procedures," detailed the District Collector.
The Pollachi Cattle Market will close from Wednesday (August 4). The District Collector urged the public to co-operate in adhering to the preventive measures taken by the district administration to control the spread of Coronavirus infections.
The consultative meeting was attended by the Corporation Commissioner Rajagopal Sunkara, District Revenue Officer, B S Leela Alex and several trade union representatives.
